Maven Advisory is headed up by Ian Johnson and Tina Patel. Both have substantial business backgrounds. Have a read of some of the highlights below.

Ian Johnson B.Bus (Acctg) FCPA

A fully qualified Certified Practising Accountant (now a Fellow), Ian has seen his many and varied business interests take him literally around the globe.

Hailing from Brisbane in sunny Queensland, Australia, Ian started his own accounting practise in his home town at the tender age of 24. He quickly built a successful practise, employing dozens of people through 2 offices – servicing thousands of business clients. This experience gave him an enormous “hands on” exposure to the world of business at a very young age. After retiring from practise, 10 years later, his interests quickly turned to business advisory. He started his first business consulting firm in Brisbane and quickly built a portfolio of business advisory clients. One of those clients, who owned a rapidly expanding international business, wanted to bring their business over to Western Europe.

This led to a move to the UK in 2001 as a co-director and shareholder of the business. Ian quickly set about setting up the UK & European markets. Within 12 months he had spearheaded the initial set- up of the territory and initial sales – the most successful start-up the business had ever seen. In 2002, he was appointed “Chief Operating Officer – Global” for the business and moved to corporate head offices in The United States in 2002. For the next year, Ian headed up the global development of the business before moving back to the UK in 2003.

After disposing of his share of the business in 2003, Ian then devoted his time to develop and market his client’s and his own business opportunities – something he has done ever since. Now based in the London, Ian divides his time travelling the world developing his own businesses and consulting to other businesses.

He has worked with and advised business owners in such diverse markets as Australasia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, United States, Mexico, South Africa, India, Ireland, United Kingdom and Western Europe.

Ian’s background of having advised thousands of businesses, both as an accountant and business advisor, allows him a unique perspective that he can bring to the development of any type of business. There’s not much Ian hasn’t seen or been involved in. He has developed for himself a reputation as a “no-nonsense” bottom line organiser who, because of has vast business experience, can add value to any business.

Ian founded his, the forerunner to MAVEN ADVISORY in Australia in 1999 and today it is the culmination of all of the business experience gained over his 25 years in business. Over the years the business has evolved to become a high quality, experienced business advisory firm, with an exceptional corporate, commercial and business background. The business is firmly and enthusiastically aimed at the SME market. As Ian himself says, “We offer a high quality service to high quality clients”.

  • Building a second business from scratch and achieving a profitable sale within two years to an international organisation.
  • Making a highly successful transition from accountancy to a more sales-orientated role, enabling Tina to make the most of her ability to build strong relationships based on transparency and integrity.

Tina Patel

Tina is a highly driven professional with a strong background in the financial sector. Originally trained as an accountant, Tina made the transition early on in her career to a more commercial role, excelling through her ability to build and sustain positive relationships with her clients.

Tina joined Maven Advisory as a Director, keen to use her extensive knowledge of creating and growing start-up companies into highly successful organisations. Within Maven Advisory, Tina’s role is to identify B2B and B2C business opportunities, within the SME Market, with a turnover of £500k to £25m and assess their potential for significant growth.

Already a successful entrepreneur, Tina’s career really took off when she joined forces with a business partner, Peter Warren, to start a company, offering accounting and payroll solutions for temporary and freelance workers. After six years, the business had grown from a fledgling operation to a thriving top-five company, with a turnover of £40m.

Looking for a new challenge, Tina established another business within the same sector, building her client base and achieving a profitable sale of the business to a well-known international organisation within two years of start- up.

Tina now uses her expertise in growing and developing Maven Advisory. Her sales skills attracts many professionals to work with her and her team of advisors in delivering business strategy, franchising development, growth by acquisition and realising the sales value to any business owner that wants to exit. She is adept at identifying businesses with an excellent history and strong growth pattern.

In her spare time, Tina likes to relax with friends and family (especially when this involves shopping or fine dining). She enjoys travelling to far-flung locations, and her most recent adventures abroad have included trips to India and Africa.
